Howdy!

The Kora is a harp of West African origin that is typically tuned to a diatonic scale (composed of 7 notes).

HANDLES

The Handles and joint are machined to perfection and comfort. The joint is made with African Mahogany and handles are made with Padauk (default), Bubinga or Zebrawood. (Other species may be available. Please send a message for custom options)

HYBRID

With this Kora you'll have two instruments in one! Every instrument comes with a plywood back cover which fits in the back part of the resonator to give a closed Kora sound. This can be easily removed by hand resulting in an open sound.

BODY

The body of the Kora is made from a single log of wood and is between 10 - 11 inches in diameter and can be 5 to 7 inches deep. The resulting sound gives superior resonance and volume!

BRIDGE

The bridge and bridge pad are also custom CNC'd from various beautiful wood species. The default bridge and pad are machined using mahogany.  Both are hand sanded and stained.

RANGE & STRINGS

The Kora has a range just over 3 octaves and comes with quality nylon string and custom wound strings for lower bass notes. The string separation on the bridge is a typical 9mm apart.

PICKUP & ELECTRONICS

A piezo pickup and electronics installation can be added as an upgrade. Add it to your cart from the item page.
